Neuromuscular electrical stimulation (ES) enhances other treatment effects used in the facial muscle exercise program (FMEP). It is used to promote, maintain, and preserve the physiological integrity of the muscle and its functions. ES is used together with oral/facial icing techniques, facial massage, lingual/ labial oral-motor exercises, DPNS, and articulatory speech tasks. FMEP is used for patients who exhibit a labial/facial flaccidly or oral dysphagia (swallowing difficulties).
