After a breast cancer has been found, the sentinel node breast exam helps to determine if the cancer has traveled to the lymphatic system.
A Radiologist will inject a small amount of isotopes into the breast and it will travel to the first lymph node of your system. The technologist will scan the area which takes approximately 10 minutes. In the operating room, a surgeon will then remove this small node and possibly others to see if they have been affected by the cancer.
