Pharmacological Stress Test
If your physician needs to test your heart's response to an increased workload but you are unable to exercise because of an injury or other physical limitation, a medication can be administered to induce the same effects as a regular stress test.
During the Procedure
You will be given an electrocardiogram (EKG) as a drug that raises your heart rate or widens your coronary arteries to increase blood flow is administered through an IV. Your blood pressure will also be monitored. During and after the procedure, staff will continue to monitor your vital signs.
After the Procedure
You may resume your normal activities.
