Dr. Polistena is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
Dr. Polistena chose to become a surgeon because she finds that the field allows her to “make patients feel a lot better, often quite quickly. Seeing patients back in the office after surgery and hearing that they are no longer having pain or now have so much more energy and confidence – that makes me so happy. It’s really rewarding to see those transitions. And the fact that I enjoy the work of it so much is just icing on the cake!”
What is Dr. Polistena’s care philosophy?
“I try to treat every patient as I would want my own family treated. It’s really important to me to spend time listening to each patient’s story, not just about their disease but about their life. I also strive to educate patients about their disease process and frequently use pictures to describe the problem and the proposed surgery. Lastly, I feel it is essential to set realistic expectations about the recovery process and the important role the patient plays in the outcome of the surgery.”
Outside of work, Dr. Polistena enjoys spending as much time as possible outdoors with her family, including hiking, swimming, boating, fishing, climbing, and skiing. She loves to travel and experience new surroundings and cultures.
