Your Hospital Bill
Lowell General Hospital is responsible for submitting bills to your insurance company and will do everything possible to expedite your claim. Our financial counselors and social workers can provide assistance with financial arrangements, insurance plans and applying for benefits.
You should remember that your policy is a contract between you and your insurance company, and you have the final responsibility for payment of your hospital bill. We have several payment options available to assist you in paying your bill.
Patient Accounting Representatives can answer questions about your hospital bill and help you interpret financial policies and billing procedures at the hospital. Contact Lowell General’s Patient Accounts Department at (978) 937-6600, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Financial assistance may be available by contacting our Financial Clearance and Counseling Department at (978) 937-6700, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
If you have certain tests or treatments in the hospital, you may receive separate bills from the physicians who performed or studied the results of those tests. Professional providers, including emergency medicine physicians and anesthesiologists, who may not participate in the same health plans as Lowell General Hospital, and may be considered out-of-network. Review these providers and their participating health plans here.
We recommend that you understand the costs of each item or service and the network status of each facility and provider involved in your heath care visit or stay. To help you track cost information, there is a form provided in the Surprise Bill Guide that you may find helpful.
Availability of Health Safety Net and Public Assistance
The Division of Healthcare and Finance Policy Regulation 114.6 CMR 12.00 specifies that Massachusetts acute care hospitals provide financial assistance to financially eligible persons and/or inform them of the availability of public assistance programs. If you are financially unable to pay your hospital bill, you may be eligible for financial assistance such as Mass Health, Children’s Medical Security Plan, Family Assistance Plan or Health Safety Net (HSN). We will help you apply for the appropriate assistance.
