Thousands of walkers were treated to a picture perfect spring Sunday, June 10, at the Tsongas Center to walk the historic streets of the Mill City for the 19th annual TeamWalk for CancerCare.

Walkers and donors raised $825,000 at this year’s event, money that goes directly to supporting cancer patients undergoing treatment at Lowell General Hospital’s Cancer Center.
“The groups that come out each year to support TeamWalk are true partners in our efforts to provide the best possible cancer care, close to home,” says Jody White, CEO of Lowell General Hospital and Circle Health. “These funds allow us to treat the person, not just the patient, and provide some relief for families during a very difficult time.”

Contributions to TeamWalk provide transportation to and from treatments, support groups and services, wigs, select medication for those in need, as well as many health and wellness programs. Since its inception in 2000, TeamWalk has raised more than $12 million and impacted more than 28,000 patients.

In honor of the Cancer Center’s 20th anniversary, this fall TeamWalk funds will support the creation of a new Women’s Health initiative based at the main campus to expand the Cancer Center’s services for women considered at high risk of a cancer diagnosis.

“This center will expand access to cancer care by providing these important services to women close to where they live and work. It will help us prevent cancer and save lives,” Dr. Murat Anamur, Director of Cancer Services, said. “Services like these would not be possible without the support we receive each year from TeamWalk.”

This year’s event was hosted by WCVB Meteorologist Cindy Fitzgibbon and Lowell native and radio personality Lori Grande. Lowell General Hospital’s own Paul Beausoleil performed the National Anthem during opening ceremonies accompanied by the Color Guard from Lowell High School.

Kevin Campbell served as Event Chairman for the sixth and final time. In honor of his work to support TeamWalk, the motorcycle enthusiast was presented with a special biker’s jacket from the hospital.

The total amount raised by TeamWalk 2018 will continue to grow through events held throughout the summer and individual donations through Sept. 30, 2018. Donations may be hand-carried or mailed to TeamWalk for CancerCare, c/o Lowell General Hospital, 295 Varnum Avenue, Lowell, MA 01854 or by credit card may be made online at
