Partners celebrate grand opening of new surgery center

Lowell General Hospital and Shields Health Care, in partnership with leading physicians from the region, celebrated the grand opening their new ambulatory surgery center in Chelmsford named The Surgery Center of the Merrimack Valley on Wednesday, May 10.
The center is a newly renovated, 14,700 square foot facility featuring four operating rooms, pre-operative space and a post anesthesia care unit, in addition to administrative and consultation areas.
Shields and Lowell General Hospital have partnered with the community-based specialty physicians from Orthopedic Surgical Associates, New England Foot and Ankle, Merrimack Valley Podiatry, Merrimack Valley Orthopedics, and New England Neurological Associates.
“This surgery center will allow us to move even more surgeries to an outpatient setting, allowing patients to recover in their own homes while expanding access for more serious cases in the hospital,” said Lowell General President and CEO Jody White said in his grand opening remarks. “We have incredible physicians, a great hospital and a great business partner working together, and this partnership is doing to do great things for patients in the Merrimack Valley.”
The Surgery Center of Merrimack Valley is open Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. The first surgery was performed at The Surgery Center on March 1. The Surgery Center of Merrimack Valley is located at 10 Research Place in Chelmsford.
