Lowell General Hospital has been selected as one of Modern Healthcare's Best Places to Work in Healthcare for 2011, making it the only hospital in Massachusetts to receive this national recognition. Best Places to Work in Healthcare recognizes outstanding places of employment within the healthcare industry. Lowell General Hospital is one of only 100 companies and organizations to earn this designation nationwide.
The Best Places to Work in Healthcare program is open to all companies (providers, suppliers, and payers) with more than 25 employees. Modern Healthcare selects the top 100 employers based upon information gathered from employers and a third-party employee survey detailing areas such as company policies/practices, leadership, benefits and demographics, culture, working environment, and other criteria.

Initiatives for which Lowell General Hospital received praise included: life and wellness programs offered to employees, a focus on cultural diversity, flexible work schedules to support work/family balance, partnerships with area colleges for professional development opportunities, and staff recognition celebrations including summer family barbecues, ice cream socials, and spa days.
