Lowell General Hospital has achieved our third consecutive Magnet Recognition for Nursing Excellence, an accomplishment realized by just 2% of all hospitals nationwide.
The American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program® distinguishes health care organizations that meet rigorous standards for nursing excellence. This credential is the highest national honor for professional nursing practice.
“A third straight Magnet Recognition is a true testament to our nursing staff’s commitment to a sustained level of excellence,” said Jody White, CEO of Lowell General Hospital and Circle Health. “I could not be more proud of the hard work these teams put in every day to make sure we follow through on our mission to Put Patients First in Everything We Do.”
To achieve initial Magnet recognition, organizations must pass a rigorous and lengthy process that demands widespread participation from leadership and staff. This process includes an electronic application, written patient care documentation, an on-site visit, and a review by the Commission on Magnet Recognition. Due to the pandemic, this year’s site visit was one of the first in the nation to be done virtually.
“This award is not just about how we performed in our Magnet review; it reflects what these nurses do day in and day out for their patients,” said Cece Lynch, Chief Nurse Executive. “This culture resonates each day, and reflects our nurses’ commitment to our patients and community.”
Health care organizations must reapply for Magnet recognition every four years based on adherence to Magnet concepts and demonstrated improvements in patient care and quality. An organization reapplying for Magnet recognition must provide documented evidence to demonstrate how staff members sustained and improved Magnet concepts, performance and quality over the four-year period since the organization received its second recognition.
The Magnet Recognition Program® — administered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the largest and most prominent nurses credentialing organization in the world — identifies health care organizations that provide the very best in nursing care and professionalism in nursing practice.
