Early arrivals ring in the New Year

2022-2023 NYE babies

The first baby of the year at Tufts Medicine Lowell General Hospital arrived at 2:15 am on New Year’s Day. But several other babies didn’t want to wait that long, even if their due date was supposed to be in 2023.

Luckily for babies born prematurely and their families, Lowell General has a Level IIB Special Care Nursery that can treat babies born as early as 32 weeks while keeping them close to their loved ones. The unit also support newborns dealing with complications after birth. The unit also recently added AngelEye Health cameras, a live-streaming patient video system that helps families bond with their new babies when they cannot be at the hospital.

The SCN nurses are expertly trained to provide these babies with the specialized care they need, and aren’t afraid to add a little extra TLC. These babies may not have been awake at midnight, but they got to celebrate all the same.
