Pelvic Floor Dysfunction

Lowell General hospital provides specialized physical therapy to women and men who have been diagnosed with pelvic floor dysfunction.  Our pelvic health specialists are able to treat conditions such as:

  • Bladder problems - urinary incontinence, urgency/frequency, and difficulty urinating.
  • Bowel problems - constipation or incontinence
  • Pelvic organ prolapse
  • Pelvic pain - pain in the vagina, rectum, abdomen, pain with intercourse, endometriosis, pudendal neuralgia
  • Postpartum related issues - diastasis rectus abdominis, bowel/bladder problems, abdominal pain, vaginal pain

Our pelvic floor specialists will complete a thorough evaluation of the pelvic floor and surrounding area to determine the cause of your symptoms and provide a customized treatment plan based on the findings.  Treatment may include education and exercises to stretch, strengthen and relax the pelvic floor, abdomen, spine and hip. Biofeedback, Manual therapy, myofascial release and electrotherapy are also common tools used during treatment.
