Pre-surgical support makes a difference
There’s more to successful bariatric surgery than the procedure itself. Ensuring that patients are truly ready to undertake life-changing weight loss surgery is an integral part of the process – and it makes a tremendous difference in patients’ experience and outcomes.
An informed patient is an empowered patient, and the Center is committed to giving patients all the information and support they need to succeed. That’s why Lowell General's Center for Weight Management and Bariatric Surgery has committed extensive resources to pre-operative patient education and support. These resources include Peggy Huddleston’s “Prepare for Surgery, Heal Faster” workshop that teaches mind-body techniques not only shown to reduce anxiety before surgery but also help patients use 23-50% less medication and recover faster.
A series of free pre-op support group meetings is offered to help patients learn what to expect from surgery and achieve the best possible outcomes by sharing with one another and hearing from experts. These sessions cover nutrition, vitamins, exercise, reading food labels, journaling and holiday eating.
