Respiratory Therapy
The Respiratory Therapy Department evaluates and treats patients with chronic asthma or emphysema, croup, pneumonia, COPD, and more, as well as providing emergency care to victims of heart attack, stroke, drowning, shock, or chest trauma. Our experienced team treats patients of all ages, from infants to seniors.
A wide variety of diagnostic and therapeutic treatments including pulmonary function testing are available on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. Inpatient emergency services are available 24/7, and all outpatient testing is done at the Lowell General Hospital Saints campus.
Resources & Education
The department provides patient education on metered dose inhalers with a spacer (a device that holds medication until you breathe it in) and on the use of home peak flow monitoring (a device for monitoring and controlling asthma). This is done for inpatients as well as outpatients.
We also partner with The Sleep Lab and Neurodiagnostics Center at Lowell General Hospital for respiratory conditions related to sleep disorders.
