Emergency Department

If you have any of the following symptoms, dial 911, and seek medical attention immediately:

  • Chest Pain
  • Difficulty Breathing
  • Severe Burns
  • Sudden Slurred Speech
  • Uncontrolled Bleeding
Don’t let the fear of contracting COVID-19 (Coronavirus) keep you from seeking treatment. We urge you and your family members to pay attention to the warning signs and symptoms of severe illness. Heart attack, stroke, severe infections, and other critical illnesses can only worsen or have life-threatening consequences if you or a loved one tries to wait it out at home. We have all the equipment, expertise, and protocols in place, and follow all state and federal guidelines for patient and staff safety.

The Emergency Departments at Lowell General Hospital's Main Campus and Saints Campus have Emergency Medicine and Surgical specialists available around-the-clock to care for patients experiencing serious acute illness and traumatic injuries. The emergency departments at both campuses, as well as Circle Health outpatient urgent care centers are staffed by the region’s leading experts in emergency medicine, Merrimack Valley Emergency Associates.

We strive to provide the right care, at the right time, at the right cost. For non-life threatening conditions and other ailments that require prompt medical attention, such as serious cuts and scrapes, sprains and fractures, or severe colds and flu, our Urgent Care centers in Dracut, Billerica, Tewksbury, and Westford are staffed with experienced physicians with background and training in emergency and family medicine.
