Sun Santa Themed Basket Raffle Raises $80K

December 10, 2021

For the second straight year, the Sun Santa Theme Basket Raffle to benefit Sun Santa Charities had to be done entirely online. But once again, that didn’t stop the community from stepping up and buying thousands of tickets and raising more than $80,000 for people in need at the holidays.

The 18th Sun Santa Raffle drawing was held in a mostly empty Clark Auditorium at Lowell General’s main campus on Tuesday, December 7. But just as he does every year, President and CEO Jody White served as masters of ceremonies along with Santa Claus and drew the winning tickets for a recording that can be seen here:

“Despite the challenges, it was a great afternoon to raise important funds for Sun Santa Charities and the people they help this time of year,” White said. “We are committed to making a difference through this partnership, with the need greater than ever.”

The Sun Santa Fund, started by The Lowell Sun newspaper in 1988, distributes the money to families in need in our community through gifts and food vouchers with the help of The Salvation Army and Community Teamwork, Inc.

Since 2004, department staffs across the hospital have teamed up to donate incredible gift baskets for the annual raffle. This year's raffle featured 23 gift baskets that ranged in value from $400 to more than $4,000, with prizes that included cash, lottery tickets, gift cards and even a 75-inch flat-screen TV.
