Lowell General Hospital Partners With AngelEye Health To Connect Special Care Nursery Babies + Families

July 25, 2022

Lowell General Hospital recently went live with a new state-of-the art camera system in the Special Care Nursery (NICU unit).

The new system from AngelEye Health brings secure, HIPAA-compliant live-streaming patient video to families to help support bonding when they cannot be at the hospital. Now, parents and other family members can log on through a secure network with a personal password so they can see their baby at any time on their phone, computer or tablet.

“Parents tell us that this is the next best thing to being there and really reduces anxiety during this emotional time,” says Laura Federico, Director of Maternal Child Health Services. “Leaving a newborn at the hospital can be very challenging for working parents and remote families.”

In addition to the live-stream video, the system also has one-way patient updates that allow care teams to share patient status updates and memorable moments with real-time texts, pictures and recorded videos. Also, a customizable parent education portal provides essential education and monitor parents’ progress on their infant’s path to discharge. These solutions support care team workflows and give families a view into the treatment plan and progress their baby is making from any connected device.

“This technology allows parents to have virtual real-time observation of their newborn, which promotes family involvement and bonding. It also provides comfort as they can view their baby’s progress and will enhance communication between the health care providers and families,” says Dr. Mario Cordova, Medical Director of Neonatology.
