A heart attack can be caused by a blockage in the artery. This video shows the opening of the blocked artery and placement of a stent to restore blood flow to the heart.

Stent Placement

A stent is a small mesh tube that's used to treat narrow or weak arteries. Arteries are blood vessels that carry blood away from your heart to other parts of your body. A stent is placed in an artery as part of a procedure called angioplasty (AN-jee-oh-plas-tee). Angioplasty restores blood flow through narrow or blocked arteries. A stent helps support the inner wall of the artery in the months or years after angioplasty.

Heart Block

Heart block is a type of arrhythmia (ah-RITH-me-ah). An arrhythmia is any problem with the rate or rhythm of the heartbeat. The three types of heart block are first degree, second degree, and third degree. First degree is the least severe, and third degree is the most severe.
