Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)

PACU

Our Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is a 12 bed cardiac monitored unit with an adjacent 8 bed pre-operative Holding Room. The PACU and Holding Room is staffed with experienced nurses that provide excellent quality and skilled nursing care to our surgical patients. Our nurses hold various degrees and many are members of the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN). The PACU staff provides care to the patient during the immediate post anesthesia period. This involves the assessment, diagnosis and unique knowledge of anesthetic agents and techniques and the physiological and psychological responses to them. The PACU and Anesthesia staffs work closely together to achieve superb patient care.

We care for a variety of patients and our staff is committed to provide the absolute best service to all of our patients. A major area of our focus is communication with families, pre- and post-operatively. If a patient is held in our Holding Room for more than 60 minutes, we ask the patient if they would like us to notify awaiting family. If a patient is held in the PACU for an extended period of time, every possible effort is made to allow a family member to visit.

After your recovery you will be transported back to the Ambulatory Daycare Unit or one of our inpatient units (MP-3, IMC, ICC, or ICU), if you plan to stay overnight.
