Offering fast access for trauma patients

The new Emergency Department and Trauma Center has two connected trauma rooms with expanded workspace and accessibility for surgeons. Reducing time to treatment is critical, and arriving sooner to a qualified center that has advanced care and immediate intervention can make a life-or-death difference. As the regional trauma center, we previously needed to transport patients via MedFlight helicopter by bringing them to a field on the VFW highway along the Merrimack River. With the addition of our new helipad adjacent to the ambulance entrance, emergency personnel can quickly transport trauma patients to and from the hospital within minutes.

Lowell General Hospital's Main Campus has been designated by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Level III Trauma Center and verified by the American College of Surgeons' Committee on Trauma.
