Survivorship Day 2009

Cancer Center Celebrates Second Annual Survivorship Day

Survivorship ... it is a journey from the very moment of cancer diagnosis and it continues with you forever. Cancer Center staff celebrated the spirit of cancer survivors on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 with an afternoon of hope and sharing on the Quad as former and current patients, their caregivers, friends and families gathered together for support and inspiration.

The event featured survivor stories, refreshments, music, information on living with cancer, and a candlelight ceremony. "Bailey" the Pet Therapy dog made his rounds, happily visiting with regular friends from his "job" at The Cancer Center, and meeting new ones.

The event was brought to Lowell General Hospital by the Cancer Center Staff and Monica Buckley, RN, MSN, OCN, Kim Regan, RN, BSN, and Indy Robles RN, BSN, OCN to bring a positive aspect to the fight against cancer and celebrate the wonderful spirit of courage and strength in our community.

Survivorship Day 2009 #4

Survivors' stories are shared in portrait and written words.

Displays with photos and stories of survivors in their own words inspired and touched all. One patient movingly described his journey after being diagnosed a year ago, and said that one of the easiest things has been to make himself accessible to anyone who is going through cancer treatments. Through communicating and sharing these challenges, he says that you don't have to compromise the way you live your life, or your spirit.
