Before Orientation

What is a pre-placement medical exam?
When you have accepted an offer for a position one of the prerequisites is that you successfully complete a pre-placement health screen and have proof of certain tests and immunizations. Please call our Occupational Health department to schedule an appointment. The number is 978-937-6363 and the Occupational Health department is located on the second floor of the Hanchett Building.


Before employment, all persons must have the following tests and immunizations

  1. A pre-placement health screen
  2. Tuberculosis Screening Test (Mantoux) - Two step method
  3. Proof of two Measles, Mumps, and Rubella vaccinations (MMR) or laboratory immunity to Measles and Rubella.
  4. History of Tetanus Booster Injection. Within past 10 years.
  5. History of three Hepatitis B vaccinations (for jobs with potential exposure to blood/body fluids) or proof of laboratory immunity.
  6. Varicella (chicken pox) history, proof of laboratory immunity or 2 Varivax injections.
  7. Proof of current annual seasonal influenza vaccination.

What paperwork do I need to complete prior to my first day of orientation?
Prior to the week you are scheduled to start you will need to come to Human Resources to complete New Hire Paperwork and show two forms of identification. This includes filling out tax forms and completing an I-9 Form.

Also, you will be asked to complete a criminal record release form. If you have been hired into a position that requires a license or certification, you'll be asked to show the original license.


Getting acquainted with Lowell General Hospital is an important part of starting your career off right! New Employee Orientation is generally offered twice a month to welcome new employees and provide them with important information in a fun and relaxed environment. Highlights include:

Day Two:

  • You & Workplace Safety: Covering comprehensive topics of safety education, Occupational Health, Emergency Management education, Infection Prevention, Safety & Security, and Environment of Care

Frequently Asked Questions

Who must attend Orientation?
All employees (full-time, part-time, per diem), contract workers, students and volunteers are required to participate in a hospital-wide orientation.

What time is Orientation?
Monday, day one, is held from 8:30am-3:30pm. Tuesday, day two, is a half day held from 8:30am-12:30pm. You will be compensated at your hourly rate for the hours you participate in Orientation.

Where is Orientation located?
Orientation is held at the Main Campus at 295 Varnum Ave. Enter at the Conference Center entrance across from the parking garage. Proceed past the concierge desk to the Clark Auditorium.

Where do I park?
Please park on Level 4 or above in the parking garage in front of the hospital. During orientation you will be informed of your designated parking thereafter.

Who will I meet?
You will meet our President Jody White, leaders from across the organization, members of our HR team and many new colleagues who are also joining Lowell General.

What do I wear?
Business casual attire is your best choice. Please remember that jeans, shorts and sweat pants are not considered appropriate for business. We will also be taking a photo for your identification badge. You may want to bring a light sweater or jacket to ensure your comfort.

What do I need to bring?
On the first day of orientation, you will be asked to complete an Employee Automobile Identification form. If you have a vehicle, please bring the license plate number with you.

What will I eat?
We will provide a healthy continental breakfast Monday and Tuesday. We will also offer a choice of made-to-order sandwiches or salads for lunch on Monday. Please let us know if we should be aware of any food allergies.
