Lowell General Hospital Earns American Heart Association 2010 Gold Plus Award for Treatment of Heart Failure

Hospital Sustains Clinical Quality Standards of the AHA’s Get With The GuidelinesSM Program for Heart Failure Patients to Improve Care and Outcomes

Lowell General Hospital was recognized by the American Heart Association with the 2010 Gold Plus award recognition for Get With The GuidelinesSM – Heart Failure Performance. This achievement indicates that the hospital reached an aggressive goal of treating heart failure patients with 85% or higher compliance to core standard levels of care as outlined by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for 24 consecutive months.

2010 Get with the Guidelines logoThe American Heart Association and American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines program recognizes hospitals for their success in using Get With The Guidelines to improve quality of care and outcomes for heart disease and stroke patients.

The American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association recognize this hospital for achieving 85% or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines® Heart Failure Performance Achievement indicators for consecutive 12 month intervals and 75% or higher compliance with 4 of 9 Get With The Guidelines Heart Failure Quality Measures to improve quality of patient care and outcomes.

“The commitment to our patients with heart failure and other cardiac events includes treatment as well as the education and best practices that encourage quality of life and improved heart health,” says Patricia Morse RN, BSN, director of heart and vascular services at Lowell General Hospital. “We participate in the AHA’s Get With The Guidelines program because it brings better outcomes and fewer recurring events which makes a real difference in the lives of our patients and their families. We are proud to be a part of the American Heart Association’s efforts to turn guidelines into lifelines.”

Certifications and standards of excellence are core to heart and vascular care at Lowell General Hospital as well as to the hospital’s mission of Patients First. The hospital recently achieved Magnet® designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center which noted the successful heart health outreach program, as well as certification by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) for meeting essential standards for quality patient care in cardiac rehabilitation.
