Kids Taking Care of Kids

Eight girls, Amanda Bakas, Katheryn Campbell, Janessa Curran, Rebecca Doiron, Christina Gray, Jennah Hamze, Madelyn Jezersk and Megan Marchionda from the Dracut Junior Girl Scout Troop 60292 worked hard all year earning their "Bronze Award", the highest award a Junior Girl Scout can earn.

After months of preliminary work that included each girl spending approximately 25 hours of work earning five different badges, their work culminated in a service project for Lowell General Hospital. Together the girls spent 120 hours planning, exploring possibilities and carrying out the production of 400 "Buzy Kitz" for the Emergency Department at the hospital. It was the idea of the girls to help children keep busy while being treated at the hospital's emergency department. The kits included coloring pages with crayons, a make your own paper bag puppet, a ready-made illusion toy and a sticker album with stickers. The kits were presented to the ED by the visiting Girl Scouts on June 3 and immediately handed out to two very appreciative youngsters.

Dracut Junior Girl Scout Troop 60292 presented 400 of their "Buzy Kitz" activity packets to the Emergency and Trauma Services Department at Lowell General Hospital. The project was part of their efforts to attain the coveted "Bronze Award", the highest level of recognition as a Junior Girl Scout.
