Email PageCancer Center Earns “Outstanding Achievement Award” by the Commission on Cancer
The Cancer Center
at Lowell General
Hospital has been awarded the
prestigious honor of Outstanding Achievement Award by the American College
of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer, following their successful accreditation in
2010. We are among only three Massachusetts’
and 90 nationwide cancer programs to earn this award.
This is a remarkable first-time achievement that was made possible by every individual working at and alongside the staff of the Cancer Center.
Established in 2004, the CoC Outstanding Achievement Award (OAA) was designed to recognize cancer programs that strive for excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients. A facility receives the OAA following the on-site evaluation by a physician surveyor during which the facility demonstrates a Commendation level of compliance with seven standards that represent the full scope of the cancer program within six areas of cancer program activity: cancer committee leadership, cancer data management, clinical management, research, community outreach, and quality improvement. To be eligible for the OAA, a facility must also receive a compliance rating for the remaining 29 standards.
