Boston Business Journal: Healthiest Employers

2013 BBJ Healthiest Employers logoOn Thursday, March 28, Lowell General Hospital was honored as a finalist for the 2013 Boston Business Journal's (BBJ) Healthiest Employers. The BBJ selected 15 companies for their varied efforts in maintaining and improving employee health. The Healthiest Employers finalists were chosen through an assessment process compromised of 75 scored questions that are completed by the participating companies. Companies ranged in size from small (2-99 employees) to medium (100-499 employees) to large (500 and over employees).

The program began with five minutes of meditation and speeches from the presenting partner Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and keynote speaker Dr. Barbara Ferrer, executive director of Boston Public Health Commission, who discussed the implementation of healthy workplace strategies. The awards presentation featured a brief overview of program highlights from each of the 15 employers.

Lowell General Hospital highlights included our annual Spring Into Action challenge, the hospital's offerings of employee discounts at local fitness centers, onsite fitness classes and nutritious heart-healthy meals in our cafeterias. The hospital was represented by some of its Employee Health and Wellness Council members.
