Hysterectomy with da Vinci®

Traditional open gynecologic surgery, using a large incision for access to the uterus and surrounding anatomy, has for many years been the standard approach to many gynecologic procedures. Yet with open surgery can come significant pain, trauma, a long recovery process and threat to surrounding organs and nerves.

For complex hysterectomies and other gynecologic procedures, robot-assisted surgery with the da Vinci Surgical System may be the most effective, least invasive treatment option. Lowell General Hospital is one of only a few multi-specialty robotic programs in the region to offer robotic treatment options in urologic, gynecologic, and now general surgery.  On April 5, 2012, Dr. Michael Jiser, Lowell General Hospital’s Chief of General Surgery, completed his first series of robotic general surgery procedures, successfully performing several laparoscopic gall bladder removals.  Dr. Jiser, a pioneer in minimally invasive surgery, is the first surgeon in Massachusetts to use the advanced da Vinci Si Surgical System to perform these general surgery procedures.
