Occupational Therapy
Our skilled Occupational Therapy (OT) professionals specialize in providing individually-designed treatment to inpatients and outpatients to help carry out self care (such as bathing, eating, dressing), homemaking, work and leisure activities.
Occupational therapists use goal-directed activities to help improve physical or cognitive skills, fabricate hand splints and teach the use of assistive devices in order to be more self sufficient. OT is often recommended for people who are experiencing difficulty with any activity due to:
- Stroke or head injury
- Hand/arm injury and/or hand surgery
- Carpal Tunnel syndrome and other cumulative trauma
- Fractures and joint replacements
- Arthritis
- Multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's Disease
- Cardiovascular and pulmonary conditions
- Multiple trauma injuries
- Mental health disorders
- Visual problems, and
- Many other types of injury, illness or disability
Your OT program is designed for you to help restore lost function and independence. Your therapist will tailor an individualized program that stresses ongoing education and support.
Occupational Therapy requires a physician's prescription.
Our hours are:
- Monday and Friday 7:00AM to 7:00PM
- Tuesday and Thursday 7:00AM to 5:00PM
- Wednesday 2:00 PM to 7:00PM
To schedule an appointment, please call us at 978.937.6408.
Inpatient Occupational Therapy
Inpatient services are often provided bedside or on the unit. Our therapists work with your medical team to maximize your functional abilities before discharge. When appropriate, we recommend home services or facilitate transfer to a rehabilitation setting or nursing home.
Outpatient Occupational Therapy
We treat patients of all ages in our offices located on the ground floor of the hospital, next to the MRI Center. There is reserved parking for OT patients adjacent to the building.
We accept most insurance plans. Many insurance plans require a referral from a primary care physician. Please contact us if you have questions about insurance coverage.
Hand Therapy
We are recognized for our clinical specialty in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation. Our staff therapists have advanced educational and clinical training in the field of hand therapy. You may be referred to hand therapy for an injury as a result of overuse, industrial accident or any type of hand trauma. Clinical services include:
- Hand splinting
- Strengthening and range of motion exercise programs
- Functional Skills retraining
- Sensory Retraining
- Scar Management
