Lowell General Hospital's new partnership with Tufts Medical Center focuses on treating the whole child and whole family. Understanding that dealing with a childhood illness or condition can affect the entire family, we have a commitment to provide the best resources to families and the community. As part of this commitment we are proud to introduce a new community education series, starting in January 2007, to educate and increase public awareness in our community on child and maternal health issues, and help families make the best decisions for their children.Each of the forums will be hosted by LGH and Tufts Medical Center physicians.
Programs throughout the year will include discussions of:
- Asthma, including the latest treatments, environmental factors, and how to lessen the onset of attacks.
- Reflux in children: causes, prevention and treatment of this common and debilitating condition.
- Pregnancy after 35: What constitutes a high-risk pregnancy? What are the benefits and risks of prenatal genetics testing? What can be done to minimize risks of pregnancy after age 35?
- Understanding teen behavior: When is "normal" teen behavior not "normal"? How do parents recognize unhealthy moods, violence, relationships, eating disorders, self-identity issues?
- Your child's heart. It's natural for parents to become alarmed when they repeatedly hear of "healthy" children who suddenly die from undetected cardiac defects. Parents will learn how cardiac problems are detected and how to understand risks and warning signs.
