A series of gastrointestinal x-rays enables physicians to observe the structure and functioning of the tissue and organs related to your eating and digestive system. The tests can help your doctor to detect ulcers, polyps, tumors, hernias, reflux disorders, Crohn's disease, appendicitis and other bowel diseases.
In addition to a conventional x-ray machine, the procedure uses a fluoroscope, a radiological device that transmits moving pictures of a patient's internal anatomy to a TV monitor. A contrast solution is given so that the soft tissues and organs can be seen inside the body.
