Understanding Cardiac Care
The cardiac system of the body is your heart and its related functions. Cardiovascular disease is any disease that affects the heart and circulatory system of the body. Cardiovascular illnesses include such problems as congestive heart failure, stroke, atherosclerosis, coronary artery disease, pericarditis, peripheral vascular disease, valvular heart disease, rheumatic heart disease, and myocardial infarction (heart attack). Other conditions include things like atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat), irregular heart rhythms, and high blood pressure.
While some people may be born with a cardiovascular illness, many more develop cardiac disease as they age or their bodies are affected by other conditions.
There are ways to prevent and treat cardiovascular diseases. In addition to healthy living and wellness, medical help (intervention) can help to reverse or prevent more serious damage with procedures, medications, or special treatment programs.
Those who care for people with heart trouble or cardiovascular illnesses are specially trained in cardiac care. Cardiologists are the doctors who are specialized in the field and cardiac nursing and technical staff are trained and certified to care for the advanced needs of such patients.
To learn more about a specific cardiac condition, visit the Health Resources section of this website.
