Star Performer, Cammie Caron"A big ‘ol heart with ears," is how co-workers describe Cammie Caron, LISCW, MSW, our August Star Performer of the Month.

Cammie, a Licensed Social Worker with The Cancer Center, has been a valued member of the oncology treatment team for two years. In her role, she is responsible for the psychological assessment and treatment of oncology patients and their family members. Cammie leads the Children's Support Groups at The Cancer Center, such as "What about Me?" to help children affected by cancer in the family.

Cammie is known for her bright smile, optimism, creativity and compassion. For example, she once sewed a porta-cath into a teddy bear to explain chemotherapy to children in her groups to help ease fears while their parents undergo chemotherapy.

"We could not have enhanced the social work services here without her," says Meg Lemire, MSW, Oncology Social Worker Director. Meg says Cammie's extensive experience in Clinical Social Work from nursing homes, school systems, secure psychiatric units and outpatient clinics has made her a real asset to LGH.

Co-worker Joann Richard, RN, says that Cammie brings the same level of dedication to her fellow staff members. "She has a manner about her that makes patients and staff want to open up to her," says Joann. Cammie runs grief recovery programs for staff, which Joanne describes as "soul-searching programs that make you a better person and caretaker".

Cammie lives in Bedford, N.H. with her husband Rick. In her spare time she enjoys swimming, cooking, traveling, spending time with her two grandchildren, Ashton and Avery, and working on household projects with her husband.
