How We Help Others

An interview and an assessment of your skills and interests will help our Volunteer Services team find a place that is right for you. Below are some of the opportunities for volunteers:

Transport

Work with Transport Department within the hospital.

The Gift Shop

Help patients, visitors and staff choose that perfect gift, or a forgotten but much needed item. The profits from the gift shop, staffed by volunteers, go to the Lowell General Hospital Auxiliary annual gift fund and benefit the entire hospital by going toward the purchase of state-of-the art equipment.

Information Desk/Concierge Services

Help to simplify the maze of information and locations inherent in hospital settings and direct or escort patients and visitors to their destinations.

Nursing Unit

Help our professional nursing staff to focus on nursing duties by assisting with non-nursing aspects of patient care. By responding to needs that are non-clinical, you can help to better meet the needs of our patients and their loved ones, while enabling our nursing team to do what they do best - nursing.

Clerical Staff

Help many departments to respond to patients' needs in a timely fashion by assisting with non-urgent clerical duties, making telephone calls and so forth.

Hospital Auxiliary

The Lowell General Hospital Auxiliary develops programs and relationships in the community to encourage financial support for Lowell General Hospital. The Auxiliary is a group of volunteers who are interested in organizing and running fundraising events and activities that benefit the hospital.

Haitian Medical Relief

In February 2010, a caring team of 11 doctors, nurses and medical specialists from throughout the area gathered as many medical supplies as possible and boarded a plane bound for Haiti, as part of a medical relief mission through the American College of Surgeons.

The entire trip was underwritten through a generous grant from Michael and Frannie Kettenbach of the Market Basket Corporation, who also donated almost a half-ton of food for the mission. Additional support, including medical supplies, was also provided by Lowell General Hospital and Saints Medical Center.
