Take a Closer Look at LGH

President's Message

Normand DescheneMarch 2008

Dear Friends,

This spring is a time of tremendous excitement and growth at Lowell General Hospital. One that will bring more advanced healthcare services to the people of Greater Lowell - moving us ever closer to our vision to become one of the best community hospitals in America.

A New Level of Special Care for You and Your Baby

At the Regional Center for Maternal and Pediatric Care at Lowell General, we are committed to raising the level of mother and infant care in our region even higher.

We proudly announce that our Level II Special Care Nursery has been elevated to Level IIB, which will enable us to provide unprecedented neonatal care in our region to babies with special health needs. This designation will allow many babies born as early as eight weeks premature or with respiratory complications to remain close to home and receive specialized neonatology care around the clock.

A New Addition to Our Family

Lowell General is pleased to welcome the physicians of WomanHealth, a leading provider of Obstetric and Gynecological services in the area, to the Lowell General Hospital family. In joining our highly respected team of OB/GYN physicians at The Regional Center for Maternal and Pediatric Care, WomanHealth patients will also have access to the advanced level of maternal healthcare offered at Lowell General. This includes highly specialized prenatal care with perinatologists and genetic counselors for women with high-risk pregnancies.

The Heart Center Offers the Gold Standard of Care

The Heart Center at Lowell General Hospital just received the American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines Coronary Artery Disease (GWTG-CAD) Gold Performance Achievement Award. The Get With The Guidelines program recognizes our success in implementing appropriate evidence-based care and protocols to reduce the number of recurrent events and deaths in cardiovascular disease patients. This is the third consecutive year Lowell General Hospital has been recognized by The American Heart Association in conjunction with this nationwide program.

Raising the Bar for Community-Based Cancer Care

The Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons has granted The Cancer Center at Lowell General Hospital a three-year Approval with Commendation as a Comprehensive Community Cancer Program. The recent approval rating granted "With Commendation" to The Cancer Center is a landmark achievement, validating the quality of its program beyond the standard level of approval. Receiving the "Commendation" status formally recognizes The Cancer Center team for surpassing the core standards and providing proactive involvement and exceptional commitment to our patients and their families.

Together We Make a Difference with TeamWalk

Over the past nine years, TeamWalk for CancerCare has grown from a local walk to the region's largest annual fundraising event. And you have been there with us every step of the way, raising over 2 million dollars, with all proceeds going directly to help our community. Whether you walk, sponsor or volunteer at the 9th Annual TeamWalk for CancerCare on Sunday, May 18, together we will continue to make a difference in the quality of life for our neighbors, friends and family living with cancer.

Building a Vision for the Future

Later this spring, Lowell General Hospital will embark on a bold journey to build the framework for a future of healthcare excellence, when we break ground on our new patient bed tower. By preparing now for the future health needs of our community, we can assure the highest quality of care today and for generations to come.

We strive to always remember our mission to put "Patients First in Everything We Do". Whether we are offering a community program that helps you and your family to stay healthy, bringing advanced technology close to home or caring for a loved one who is ill, we are always privileged to serve you, our community, each and every day.

In good health,

Norm Deschene
President and CEO
