President's Message

Normand DescheneDear Friends,

I am very pleased to announce that Lowell General Hospital and Saints Medical Center have entered into an agreement which will allow us to proceed with negotiations toward an affiliation of the two hospitals.

Both hospitals are committed to providing the very best health care to the Greater Lowell community and a merger would allow us to deliver even higher quality care. We are absolutely convinced that these discussions will lead to a new local health care system that will be second-to-none.

This is a great opportunity to expand health care services that are currently unavailable in Lowell, including the delivery of highly specialized care. Combining the two hospitals allows us to use our resources more efficiently. That allows us to free up resources to invest in other areas of care that are important to the health of the community.

An affiliation will also ensure continued local control of these two vital institutions. We share a common mission of improving the health of the community we serve, especially low income residents. We will be able to combine our resources to expand and improve our community health programs. Under this agreement, there will be one hospital but continue to be two hospital campuses.

With this announcement, Lowell General and Saints will now be able to share confidential information and negotiate issues related to the integration of the two hospitals.

An affiliation of Lowell General and Saints will allow us to create the very best local health care system. Our goal is that residents of Lowell will almost never need to travel outside the community to get all of the care they need.

In Good Health,

Norm Deschene
President and CEO
