June 2013

Katie Grzyb, RN

Emergency Department, Main Campus

Katie Grzyb, RN"Katie has excelled in the new pediatric ED, where she is a compassionate, efficient and clinically astute member of the team," is how Nathan MacDonald, MD, FACEP, Chief of Emergency Medicine, describes June's Star Performer of the Month, Katie Grzyb. "She often demonstrates initiative, completes tasks before being asked and is proactive in making sure everything that needs to happen is completed ahead of time."

Katie began her career at Lowell General five years ago in the Emergency Department, first as a tech while she was in nursing school, and for the past two years as a registered nurse.

Physicians comment that Katie's professionalism and hard work are impeccable. Some have been known to say that if they could clone her, they would. Her passion and commitment are only some of the attributes that led to her being a Star Performer recipient. After watching her older brother work as a paramedic, she always knew she wanted to work in an emergency department setting.

Katie lives in Lowell and enjoys going to the beach with her friends, taking yoga classes and going out to eat. In the fall, she volunteers at the hospital's Bike Rodeo, which promotes bicycle safety and the use of helmets to prevent head injuries in children.

Congratulations Katie! You're a Star!
