Star Performer, Debra Peterson"The bright spot in the lives of our cancer patients," is how co-workers describe Debra Peterson of the Laboratory, our October Star Performer of the Month.

Deb, a full time phlebotomist at The Cancer Center, has been with LGH for over seven years. In her role, she serves an average of 80 patients a day, and is known for her contagious smile and caring demeanor. Patients at The Cancer Center often ask for her by name, and she's even had patients stop by just to say "hi" and bring her a coffee, even when they don't have an appointment.

Deb's "Patients First" attitude is displayed every hour she is here, and she often remembers the smallest details of patient conversations - enough to always put a smile on their face. Co-worker Joyce Boisvert says Deb's rapport with patients is
amazing. "Deb gets excited with them, sad with them. She doesn't just punch in and punch out, when she's in all her effort and compassion is here, and it doesn't end until her day does."

"Her commitment to the oncology patient far exceeds expectations," says Claudia Rupp, Director of Cancer and Pain Services.
"She will stay late, come in early, or do whatever it takes to ensure that our patients are treated with dignity and respect. She's a
positive influence on others, and definitely a Star Performer in every sense."

A real team player, Deb never hesitates to help co-workers in any capacity. She'll adjust her shift, leave lunch early, and do
whatever it takes to accommodate patient flow. Her years of experience allow her to efficiently serve a large volume of patients.
She takes pride in her job, and continually displays a high level of timeliness and efficiency to quickly get caregivers lab results.

Deb lives in Dracut with her mom Fran Couture, of Concierge Services, and her 12 year-old son Scott. In her spare time she likes to watch the Celtics, Red Sox, and Patriots, as well as go golfing and to the movies with her son.
