Susan Gemos, RN

Nursing Administration

Susan Gemos"Susan runs the show on all shifts and does it with finesse," is how co-workers describe the exceptional supervisory skills of Susan Gemos, our July Star Performer of the Month.

Susan has been a valued member of the Lowell General family for over 40 years. In her role as Administrative Coordinator, she is in charge of the hospital's main campus on the night and weekend shifts. Her duties include rounding on all floors, handling patient flow and issues in each department, and ensuring appropriate staffing in all units. She is known for her sensitivity to staff and patients' needs, and is a strong believer in work/family balance.

"Susan is a born leader, and readily expresses her appreciation for a job well done," says Linda McLellan, RN, charge nurse on MP3. "She is caring and kind, as well as a great listener."

Susan is known for her dedication to the nursing profession, a dedication she has passed down to her two daughters who are also nurses here at Lowell General. Heather Lanier, RN, is an Administrative Coordinator, and Jennifer Gemos, is an RN in the ICU. Sue is a strong patient advocate, always looking out for the health and welfare of others. For example, while dancing at a New Year's Eve party with some Lowell General colleagues a few years ago, a guest at the party unexpectedly fell on the floor, the result of a heart attack. Sue ran to the man, took charge, started compressions, and helped save his life until paramedics arrived at the hotel. This take-charge attitude and knowing exactly what to do is Sue's everyday approach here at Lowell General Hospital.

Susan lives in Lowell with her fiancé John, and in her spare time she loves spending time with her family and four grandchildren. She is committed to fitness, frequenting the gym whenever she can, and also loves to travel, going to the beach, and spending time with friends having dinner and dancing.

Congratulations, Susan. You're a Star!
