September 2009
Jasu (Jay) Lewis
MP3
"Jay really listens to patients, he has a seat, a conversation... each interaction is special for that individual patient." This "Patients First" attitude is why co-workers nominated Jay Lewis as our September Star Performer of the Month.
Jay is a Nurse's Aid on MP3, and recently celebrated his first anniversary with LGH. In his role, he assists the nursing staff with patients and helps to ensure our patients' stay is as comfortable as possible. He is known for his adaptability on the very busy unit. For example, he jumps to action when a call light comes on, especially those not assigned to him when the evening shift gets extra busy. His outgoing personality makes him a hit with patients, so much so that they sometimes come back to visit just to say hello.
"Jay is so flexible, whether there are two admissions or 20, he is calm and able to set the goals for the shift with his colleagues so patients always receive prompt attention and exceptional care," says Robin Collins, RN, Clinical Manager, MP3. "His calm, ‘we can do it' attitude helps everyone get through the really busy shifts."
Jay takes this same caring attitude with staff when he arrives each day, always asking how everything is going, professionally and personally with his co-workers. He is 100% accountable for his job performance; always present at meetings and trainings and to offer feedback regarding improvements. He shows his appreciation to his entire team on MP3, a team he considers to be like family.
Jay lives in Lowell and in his spare time enjoys playing basketball, hanging out with friends, watching the Celtics, Patriots, and other major league sports. He's also a big movie fan - with a love for horror flicks, comedy, and action films.
Congratulations Jay, You're a Star!
