Julie Handy

Center for Community Health & Wellness

Star Performer, Julie Handy"The face of LGH in the community, and a strong advocate for our employees' health," is how co-workers describe Julie Handy, our May Star Performer of the Month.

Julie has been a Health Educator in our Community Health and Education Department for over two years. In her role, she assists with the scheduling and oversight of LGH's many health education programs, both internally and throughout the Greater Lowell area.

"I think Julie exemplifies what LGH is all about," says Michelle Davis, Manager of Community Health and Education. "She always speaks about how much she loves working at LGH, and how she wouldn't go anywhere else for her healthcare."

Julie is known for her endless energy and strong commitment to her fellow staff members. She heads the Employee Wellness program here at LGH, and is always the first to volunteer to sit at tables or help with employee satisfaction. She sits on a multitude of committees within LGH, and is a member of the LGH "Green Team" to advocate for recycling efforts here at the hospital.

Her achievements are remarkable. In the past year, she played an integral in having LGH named as a "Fit Friendly Company" by the American Heart Association. Her strong efforts to promote exercise at LGH brought a walking lane for employees around campus, a bike rack in the parking garage to encourage biking to work, and implementation of the START! website for employees to track their activity and eating habits. She also heads up the "Spring into Action" employee fitness program.

Julie grew up in Orange County, California, and came here in 2002 to attend UMASS Lowell and started working at LGH right after her graduation in 2006. She is an avid volleyball player, and loves running, hiking, reading, and spending time with her boyfriend John.

Congratulations, Julie. You're a Star!
