Mary Abolhassani"She knows these Pyxis machines inside and out - and keeps them running like a fine Swiss watch," says Paul Lavoie, Pharmacy Operations Manager, when describing the skill and expertise of Mary Abolhassani, our July Star Performer of the Month.

Mary began her career at LGH 12 years ago as a technician in the Cancer Center pharmacy, later moving to a technician role in the LGH pharmacy. She took on the role as Pyxis technician in 2007, where she has the challenging task of maintaining all of the hospital's 43 Pyxis machines here and at the Surgery Center.

A Pyxis machine contains and controls the use of medications, and is run by a computer program that records and regulates which drug is being removed, who is removing it and when, and whom the drug is going to. This is an extremely important piece of equipment that must be in optimal working condition at all times. Mary's role is multi-faceted, as she conducts software updates, conducts monthly usage reports, and make sure we comply with all JCAHO regulations.

"Mary has exceeded our hopes of what a good Pyxis technician should be," says Paul. "She makes everything look so easy and that's why our patients are served so quickly and professionally." Mary is known for her strong work ethic, but she loves what she does and doesn't let the critical nature of her job bring her down. Co-workers love her upbeat personality, professionalism, and her ability to handle the workload that would normally take a multitude of other workers to maintain.

Mary is a Dracut resident and loves to travel for vacation any chance she gets. Among her favorite retreats is Hampton Beach where she enjoys the warm sea breeze and sandy walks on the beach. She also enjoys being creative with different arts and crafts activities.
