Barbara Barbin
Patient Service Center
"Barbara takes pride in LGH's success, and takes the time to know our regular patients by name," is how co-workers describe the dedicated personality of Barbara Barbin, our March Star Performer of the Month.
Barbara started her career here over 10 years ago in the Emergency Department, later moving to the Patient Service Center (PSC). As a Patient Service Representative, she manages the flow of traffic to ensure all patients are seen in a timely manner. She handles all the statistics for patient visits, as well as serving as liaison between hospital departments and physician offices for add-on tests and standing orders. She is known for her capability to adjust to an ever-changing work environment.
"Barbara has always been an important part of my team. We have many patients that come to the PSC frequently, and they treat Barbara like their family, always showering her with little treats to show their appreciation," says Danielle Pinard, Patient Services Manager. "She's a fixture in our department, and her expertise and ability to remain calm and composed during our really busy times is extremely impressive."
Barbara says she loves her job because she is a true "people person". For some patients, the hospital can be a very scary place, especially for those that may have language barriers, or no family to accompany them. Barbara makes them feel at home, ensures that all their paperwork is in order, and that they are seen in a timely fashion.
Barbara lives in Lowell with her husband David and has two grown children and two grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoys knitting, sewing, and taking trips to Florida with a group of friends.
