The Seventh Annual Lowell General Hospital Ball for Community Health Initiatives
A sold out crowd of 550 guests celebrated Lowell General Hospital's 7th Annual Ball for Community Health Initiatives on Saturday, March 3, 2012. The event, held at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium, raised $225,000 to help fund vital health and wellness programs which benefit residents of the Greater Lowell community.
"This incredible evening was a testament to the generosity of our community," said Norm Deschene, President and CEO of Lowell General. "The Ball committee, led by Dr. Loreen Ali and Dr. Jonathan Drake, did an amazing job in creating an atmosphere where everyone had fun while truly making a difference."
Three local non-profits were awarded Community Health Initiative Grants for 2012. They were: Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association's Access To Healthcare program, Greater Lowell Health Alliance's Early and Adequate Prenatal Care program, and the Mill City Grows Gardener Training program. Alternative House, a Lowell agency specializing in a variety of domestic violence services, received a donation of furniture that was used in the event's lounge area, sponsored by MEC Electrical Contractors.
A special live auction was also held to raise additional funds for Catie's Closet's "Wardrobe of Hope" program and The Lowell Alliance for Families and Neighborhoods "Diaper Bank Collaborative." One lucky attendee that supported this auction received a pair of diamond earrings donated by Barmakian Jewelers.
This year's event was made possible through the generosity of Gold Sponsor Enterprise Bank, and Silver Sponsors Commonwealth Radiology Associates, Eastern Bank, KLIN Spirits, Lowell Anesthesiology Service, LowellBank, Lowell General Physician Hospital Organization, Merrimack Valley Emergency Associates, Merrimack Valley Cardiology, Northeast Surgery Center, Pride Star EMS, and Trinity Emergency Medical Service.

The Lowell General Hospital Ball was established in 2006 by the hospital, its dedicated medical staff and concerned members of the community to generate awareness and funds to help address significant health issues facing our community. Net proceeds benefit the hospital's Community Health Initiative programs. Past events have supported mental health resources through HES, Inc., the Merrimack Valley Food Bank's Community Markets, the Boys & Girls Club Healthy Habits program, breastfeeding support, and more.
