Star Performer, Suzanne Barczak"She is a major reason why some of LGH's sickest patients get the best care" is how co-workers describe Suzanne Barczak, RN, our November Star Performer of the Month.

Suzanne has been a staff nurse on LGH's Medical Surgical Unit (MS3) for four years. In January of 2005, she was selected by her peers to be the new Clinical Leader on the floor due to her enthusiasm, energy, and compassion. She motivates the staff to put "patients first" at all times and eagerly picks up assignments to ease the burden on other staff members. Suzanne is known to be the first to hold a patient's hand when they are having a bad day. Even during the most hectic shift, she is always smiling and cheerful.

"Suzanne helped set the standard for care on MS3 and is an important reason behind the success of the unit," says co-worker Lee Rogers, Clinical Manager of MS3. Suzanne is known for her professionalism in her actions and dress, and is a positive reflection of LGH to patients, visitors, and fellow employees. Suzanne was honored for Excellence in Nursing last May, and had her portrait on the Wall of Nursing outside of Administration.

Sally Vail, RN, Director of Inpatient Services, says that Suzanne takes great pride in making sure the patients and families on MS3 receive the best possible care. She is known by all the nursing staff and physicians on MS3 for her warm laugh and strong sense of humor.

"Suzanne is a role model for strong clinical care here at LGH," says Sally. "We are proud to have her as our Clinical Leader on MS3."

Suzanne lives in Lowell, has two children, and enjoys taking care of her two German Shepherds. She enjoys summer activities, and often invites MS3 staff to jet-ski out on the river after work.
